Empty Beauty Products (5)

Just when I thought I was getting back to a routine and being organized after moving, my allergies/ a cold hit (who knows which one) and I developed a persistent cough that is still insisting on lingering. It was pretty bad for a while, and I am always surprised by just how tiring it is not being able to breathe. All said and done; I finally have an empty beauty products post! This post is rather long because it includes all of the products I've used since my last empties post at the beginning of August.

Exact In Vivid Colour Conditioner

This is a product I return to over and over again, as seen in volume 3 of this series. As I said then, I use this conditioner in place of shaving cream because it’s readily available at the grocery store and is pretty cheap. And I find using conditioner instead of shaving cream makes my legs extra soft and causes less adverse reactions. I replaced this bottle with a different scent but will be returning to the pink bottle next time. (Product not pictured because I accidentally left it on the floor when taking the photo...)

Bath and Body Works Lovely Lemon Meringue Deep Cleansing Hand Soap

It can’t be a secret that I love Bath and Body Works’ Deep Cleansing Hand Soaps. This scent, in particular, was absolutely lovely. It smells very lemony with a hint of vanilla that helps to subdue the tartness beautifully. I would repurchase this without hesitation.

Bath and Body Works Fresh Lemonade Deep Cleansing Hand Soap

This scent was also nice, though a disappointment compared to the Lovely Lemon Meringue for me. The scent of this soap was much more tart, and I just didn’t love the hint of lime with the lemon.

Pond’s Cold Cream Cleanser

I love Pond’s Cold Cream Cleanser as a nightly cleanser. It allows me to remove all my makeup and cleanse my skin all in one step, without being super harsh. I also prefer to shower at night, rather than in the morning, and this product is easily applied pre-shower and then rinsed off in the shower without making a huge mess or being difficult to remove. I have already replaced this cleanser.

Lush Ultrabland Facial Cleanser

This is another facial cleanser I love, again, because it gently removes all the makeup and dirt from my face without being too harsh on my skin. It’s also very moisturizing, which is an added bonus. This cleanser does require the use of cotton pads to remove, rather than just being able to rinse off with water, due to the beeswax in its formula. But it still comes off easily and does an excellent job at removing everything from your face. Because of this, however, I don’t tend to use it in the shower, but rather on the nights I don’t shower.  I would have replaced this already, but they were very sadly sold out when I was in Lush.

Herbal Essences Arabica Coffee Fruit Shampoo

After Herbal Essences discontinued my favourite shampoo, I picked this one up because it said coffee in the name. The shampoo was fine - it’s an Herbal Essences product, and they will forever be my favourite shampoo/ conditioner makers. I was not, however, a fan of the scent. I found it a little too musky and strong. I’ve read other reviews that have raved about the scent, so try it out in store yourself, but it was not for me. I actually found myself tying back my hair a lot more often because I would catch a whiff and not be happy.

Herbal Essences Arabica Coffee Fruit Conditioner

Again, the conditioning part of this conditioner was fine and worked as expected, but I could just not handle the scent. I will not be repurchasing this particular product, though maybe others in the line.

L’Oreal Total Repair Replenishing Mask

This mask worked well at hydrating the poor, frizzing, uncared for ends of my hair. Scent, however, is a big deal breaker for me and this was too chemically. I did manage to use the entire jar, but it took a long time and I only really used it when desperate rather than the intended weekly use. I will not be repurchasing this product.

Glamglow Volcasmic Matte Glow Moisturizer

This was a sample I received from Sephora, so I was only able to try it once before forming an opinion. I was actually really surprised by how much I did like this moisturizer after one try. It went on smoothly, was actually very matte, was super hydrating, and didn’t seem to irritate my skin at all. I actually used it at night while suffering from a severe breakout and thought I’d wake up regretting my decision - when I woke up, however, my breakout was significantly reduced. I’m not sure if it’s worth the $64 price tag, but I’d maybe consider it when my moisturizer runs out.

BareMinerals Ready SPF 20 Foundation

This was a sample I received from Sephora, and my major note is that the colour I received did not, at all, match my skin tone. Now, this is to be expected with samples, but looking at the selection of colours available online, I’m not sure any would match well, which is a huge deal breaker. I used this powder over my liquid foundation and it kind of just sat, visibly, on top. I like the idea of having SPF in as many makeup products as possible, but this product just wasn’t for me.

Crest Complete Minty Fresh Striped Toothpaste

My go-to toothpaste. I like that it has that added benefit of helping to whiten teeth, even if that doesn’t really actually happen. I think it helps me keep my coffee addiction from being insanely evident in my smile, which is an A+ accomplishment in my books. I’ve already replaced this, although I mixed up the flavour and am making do.

Blistex Medicated Lip Ointment

This product has saved my lips time and time again. As soon as the air gets dry my lips get chapped and dry to the point where they will bleed when I so much as smile. It is painful and irritating. This is the absolute best product to fight off that dryness, and I’ve been using it faithfully for years. I haven’t repurchased yet, but it will soon find its way back into my shopping cart.

Lancome Energie de Vie

This worked as a nice moisturizer/ serum combination product, and I liked that although it was a sample, the sample was large enough to try over multiple days, allowing for a more complete review. It did work well, but I wasn’t completely overwhelmed by it, and I definitely won’t be giving up my drugstore moisturizer (and it’s price) for this one.

Nuface Prep-N-Glow Dual-Side Cloth

This was a sample I received, and I am thrilled that I did. These clothes are double-sided, with one side acting as the exfoliating and makeup removing side, and then the other as the cleansing side. At $28 for 20 clothes, they’re not that unreasonably priced compared to drugstore brands, and they come individually packaged so you don’t have to worry about all of them drying out before you can use them. These would be perfect for travelling, especially on a long flight, and for late nights out when washing your face is the last thing you want to do before crashing into bed. I haven’t purchased them yet, but I think I will.

Living Proof No Frizz Nourishing Oil

This was another sample I received from Sephora. It worked alright, but I just wasn’t wowed by it. I found it left my hair looking slightly greasy and weighed down and didn’t really help fight off any humidity. I’ve used a number of other oils that have worked much better and will stick with those in the future.

Secret Invisible Outlast Clean Lavender Antiperspirant

This is currently my go-to antiperspirant (which can be seen here as well). I like the fresh scent and find that this product will actually last all day, unlike others I’ve tried. I have already replaced it!

Oscar Blandi Pronto Dry Shampoo Powder

Apparently, this product has been discontinued, which is unfortunate because it worked well, smelled wonderful, and lasted just about forever. Although I would prefer the ease of a spray dry shampoo, I haven’t found one that has worked as well as this one and would happily replace it if possible. I guess I’ll now be on the hunt for a good dry shampoo, so if you have any recommendations, please let me know!

BareMinerals Lash Domination Volumizing Mascara

Funnily enough, instead of volumizing, I actually found that this mascara lengthened my lashes more than anything else. This was a nice effect, especially for the summer, when I tend to wear less makeup anyway (because it just melts off overwise, amirite?), but not usually what I look for in

Benefit They’re Real Remover

I definitely prefer a liquid makeup remover to a cream like this one, but it did its job and removed my eye makeup. This was a sample, and actually lasted a fair bit longer than I thought it would. Just because I’m not a fan of cream makeup removers, I wouldn’t purchase this, but if that’s your preference, this one might be worth a try.

Lancome Genifique Youth Activating Concentrate

This product is honestly a puzzling one for me. It was fine as a serum but I didn’t really notice any real effects, and especially did not notice anything happening with my skin that would be worth $125. I would not purchase this product myself.

Clinique Pep-Start 2-in-1 Exfoliating Cleanser

Another sample. I really liked this product and thought it exfoliated and cleansed well. I don’t exfoliate on a daily basis, so I don’t know if I would purchase this product in full - it seems easier and more luxurious feeling to use exfoliating masks once a week instead. I also don’t tend to choose foaming cleansers, which this one is, because they tend to have higher amounts of coconut byproducts in them (#allergiessuck). But this did make my skin feel soft and fresh.
