Fall Favourites

It’s Thanksgiving Monday in Canada, which is traditionally a time for eating as much turkey and pie as possible, expressing gratitude for the friends and family we have, and for celebrating Fall. This year, I spent the long weekend working, and because I’m so far from family, did not indulge in the traditional feast. It was kind of nice, however, because I was happily busy at work all weekend and didn’t have to travel on a crazy travel weekend. I’m going to visit my family in a couple of weeks, so I plan to make up for the missed weekend then - when everything else is a little less crazy. I thought, however, it would be nice to celebrate Thanksgiving by sharing my favourite things about fall.

1. The Weather

Despite today’s (and the entire weekend’s) somewhat rainy weather, I absolutely love when the weather starts to cool down, yet isn’t quite at that freezing mark yet. Jeans and cozy sweaters are my go-to apparel, and I can’t wait for the temperature to dip low enough to layer up.

2. Fall Recipes

Autumn is the time of year when apples, pumpkins, sweet potatoes and all the delicious foods are in season. It’s also the perfect time to create warm and hearty dishes as the temperature cools. I hate even thinking about turning on my oven during the hot summer months, but as soon as it gets chilly I am roasting all the vegetables! Be sure to follow my recipes board on Pinterest to see some of the new recipes I’m thinking about trying!

3. Candles

I love burning candles all throughout the year, but there’s just something about autumn and all those yummy cinnamon and caramel scented candles that pull me in. They make absolutely everything so cozy and nice and easily bring a meh day back up to wonderful.

4. Cozy Nights In

Is there anything more delightful than curling up in bed on a cold fall evening and watching Netflix while sipping on a warm mug of hot chocolate (especially if you throw some Bailey’s in there). Or swap that hot chocolate with a glass of red wine. I’m currently rewatching Buffy the Vampire Slayer, because, October.

5. The Autumn Leaves

Walking through crunching, crispy, colourful leaves. Driving past miles and miles of beautifully rich and vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows. Everything always looks like it’s straight out of a painting. Even when it’s raining, like this morning’s dismal weather, the leaves look absolutely gorgeous.

Fall is easily my favourite season, and I’m hoping that predictions are wildly wrong this year and instead of a crazy short period, we get a good, long crisp autumn before hibernating for winter.

Let me know what your favourite fall things are below!
