Empty Beauty Products (7) - Where I share my most recently used products and what I thought about them | kathleenhelen

The last time I posted my empty products was mid-October, which is over 3 months ago, so bear with me because there are a lot of products here. I also reorganized my bathroom cupboards at the beginning of the new year and cleaned out a number of products that weren't necessarily completely empty, but which I was never going to use. I'll try to make it clear which products I use regularly and which I disliked so much I didn't finish using them.

Pond's Dry Skin Cream

This is my go-to daily cleanser because it’s gentle and non-drying. I use it every morning with my Clarisonic, so I’ve already replaced it! I’ve shared this product before (here!), so it’s looking like it takes me about 4-5 months to go through a container - and that’s with daily use - so it’s pretty long lasting!

Bath and Body Works Exfoliating Hand Soap in Winter White Woods

I'll admit that I was initially skeptical of this new hand soap formula, which has replaced my old go-to deep cleansing hand soap formula. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I might love this formula even more than the old one. The soap is definitely exfoliating, but it is also a very gentle exfoliant that leaves the hands feeling soft and clean. The scent is a lovely combination of marshmallow and woody fur that smells great. I would definitely purchase this soap and scent again.

Joe Fresh Radiant Face Serum

This was a product that I used only half of before deciding to discard it. I purchased this face serum after using the Ole Henrikson serum that is a cult classic for a reason. I really wanted something that would have a similar effect without the step price. This qualified on the price front, but the product itself failed to deliver. I also think it was causing my skin to break out, although I will admit that my skin is so terrible it's really difficult to attribute a break to a specific product. I will not be purchasing this product again.

Crest Complete Minty Fresh Striped Toothpaste

My go-to toothpaste. I like that it has that added benefit of helping to whiten teeth, even if that doesn’t really actually happen. I think it helps me keep my coffee addiction from being insanely evident in my smile, which is an A+ accomplishment in my books. I’ve already replaced this.

John Frieda Luxurious Volume All-Day Hold Hairspray

This is my favourite and go-to hairspray (I shared it in volume 2 of this series as well). It’s a good size can that lasts a while (this can lasted about 6 months), it isn’t too expensive, and I can buy it at the grocery store which is especially convenient because I only ever remember I need hairspray after I’ve run out. I love that this hairspray holds really well while still being flexible. My hair can still move and feels normal (no crunch), but the hairspray holds on to that curl I work hard to add to my hair every day. I have already replaced it with a fresh new one!

Bath and Body Works Exfoliating Hand Soap in Toasted Vanilla Chai

This hand soap was just as lovely as the Winter White Woods. It has a warm, sweet vanilla scent with lots of spice. I would buy this scent again as well.

Urban Decay Perversion Mascara

This was a sample size version of the mascara that I got from Sephora. It did wonders to both lengthen and volumize my lashes and actually stayed on throughout the day. I was also surprised by how long this sample size version lasted so I would imagine that a full-size tube would last longer than the average mascara tube. I would definitely buy this again.

Batiste Dry Shampoo in Blush

This was the first time I tried Batiste dry shampoo, and I liked enough to buy another bottle. The blush scent is fairly floral, but also absolutely lovely. The product works well, absorbing oil without leaving a visible white residue. I would definitely buy this product again, and actually already have.

Clinique High Impact Mascara

This was another sample size mascara from Sephora. This one, however, was not such a hit as Perversion. It didn't make any kind of impression on me in terms of volume or length and tended to smudge off throughout the day, causing not so lovely raccoon eyes. I did not finish the tube and would not buy this product again.

Garnier Fructis Miraculous Oil Hair Elixer

I bought this to replace my favourite hair oil that was unfortunately discontinued. It was okay and did a passable job of smoothing my hair and taming the frizz with an acceptable scent. This product, however, lacks any kind of wow factor that the Herbal Essences oil had in terms of capability and scent. I liked that this oil was accompanied by a drugstore price tag, but when I received Bumble & Bumble's Invisible Hairdresser's Oil for Christmas, I decided to go ahead and give this one up. I most likely would not purchase this product again.

Softsoap Citrus Splash & Berry Fusion Moisturizing Body Wash

I like the Softsoap Body Washes and I love the scent of this one. It’s perfect for a summertime feel thanks to the fresh and bright citrus and delicious berry. I find that Softsoap’s Body Washes tend to last a while, all while being a very affordable option. This is one of my favourite body washes and one I return to again and again. (I also talked about my love for Softsoap body washes in this empties posts). I haven't repurchased this scent yet, but I most likely will come summer.

Secret Invisible Outlast Antiperspirant in Clean Lavender

This is still my go-to scent, just like in my last empties post here. It’s just so fresh smelling without being overpowering! I accidentally replaced the lavender scented version with a powder fresh one (make that two because they were on sale). I'm making due, but when it comes time to repurchase deodorant, I will be switching back to the lavender scent for sure.

Neutrogena Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover

This is still my go-to eye makeup remover because it’s affordable and works fantastically. It’s also super gentle on your eyes. I've been using this eye makeup remover nightly for a while and shared this product before. I've already replaced this bottle as well.

Exact Crank Up the Volume Conditioner

I typically buy Exact brand conditioner for use in place of a shaving cream. This was a new to me scent, and I have to say that I was not a fan. The scent is white nectarine and pink coral flower fusion. I’m not a huge fan of nectarines anyways, so maybe that impacted how I felt about this scent, but it definitely wasn’t for me. I would buy this conditioner again, but not in this scent.

Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Daily Cleanser - Creamy Formula

This moisturizer is a favourite of mine, and another product that’s been seen in this series before (right here!). This is a great lightweight moisturizer that is perfect for daily use. I do find it a little bit too light during the winter because I have crazy dry skin that only gets 1000 times worse when the cold, dry air hits, but usually applying two pumps instead of one in the morning does the trick. This bottle took me about 4 months to go through, so we shall see how much more quickly I use my current bottle with the cold, dry air.

Softsoap Vanilla & Brown Sugar Hand Soap

I picked up this hand soap from the grocery when I unexpectedly ran out of Bath and Body Works hand soap (you know when you think you have a stash of something tucked away… but then don’t?). I was actually quite disappointed because this bottle cost me roughly the same as Bath and Body Works hand soap, did not last as long, and did not feel or smell as nice. It's a fine basic hand soap, but I was left disappointed and have restocked my supply of Bath and Body Works hand soaps.

Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisturizer for Sensitive Skin

This is the absolute best moisturizer I have tried. It's definitely heavy, so I use it as a night cream and use something lighter during the day, but I absolutely love this cream. I haven't replaced it yet because I'm trying to use up all the samples I have stocked up, but once those are gone, I know I will ultimately come back to this moisturizer.

Lush Cup O' Coffee Mask

This face and body mask smells delicious (to my coffee addicted self at least) and made my skin feel so nice and smooth and awake. Because it's coffee-based, I found it really needed to be used in the morning rather than at night, when I would typically use a mask. It leaves a tingling, awake feeling in your skin that doesn't really lend itself well to a bedtime/ end of day routine. While I did really like the mask, I probably won't buy it again because it didn't fit well into my routine.

Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in Black Ink

This was my first try at a potted eyeliner that needs to be applied with a brush and I don’t think I’ll ever be able to comfortably go back to anything else. This liner applies smoothly and consistently and stays put all day. The black is a dark, true black colour that looks sharp and I had no problems with the liner smudging at all throughout the day (not so the case with the pencil I switched back to after finishing this). The only problem I had with this liner was that after some time it began to dry out and I had to abandon its use before I had actually used up all of the product. I’m sure there is some way to add a solution to it to extend the longevity, but even so, with potential bacterial growth or whatnot, I would probably prefer just simply a smaller quantity of product. I would absolutely buy this eyeliner again and already have.

Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer

This was a sample I received from Sephora and the tint was too dark for my skin tone so I didn't finish it. What I did try was very moisturizing and seemed like it would provide good coverage. The product also comes in a variety of shades so I would think about trying it again, though I don't have any plans to run to my nearest Sephora for it.

Make Up For Ever Smoky Extravagant Mascara

This product was another sample I received from Sephora and one that I really liked. I love trying new mascaras and this one did not disappoint. It added volume and was easily buildable so you can create the perfect looks for both day and evening wear with only one product. The brush was a little large and initially intimidated me a bit, but it did work well and the colour was dark and lasting, which I liked. I would buy this mascara again.

BareMinerals Big & Bright Eyeliner in Intense Black

Okay. This liner was a sample from Sephora that I used immediately after discarding my Bobbi Brown Gel Eyeliner that I absolutely loved. I did not especially dislike this liner, but it is a pencil, so I didn’t love it. I found that it easily smudged, getting all over my eyelids most days and I didn’t find it that intensely black, but, again, that could be my comparison to the gel liner. I would not purchase this liner again.

Lancome Longwear Eyeliner Pencil

These eyeliners were my longtime go-to for eyeliner. Since trying gel eyeliner, however, I couldn't help but notice just how much pencil liner can smudge and fade. I decided it was time to discard of these pencils, and I probably won't buy them again.
